Hanging Garden

At the start of the year I got a strange phone call from Jodi Moise, the curator of the fine art program at Montefiore Health System, asking if I would consider an outdoor commission of my floral work. I wasn’t really sure since I’ve always worked with woollen yarn for my knitted artwork. But that’s when I discovered PARACORD!! This amazing nylon cord is lightweight, durable, strong, comes in an amazing array of explosive colors, and wait for it, cheap!

So I am proud to say that after working with 28,000 feet of cord, 2,000 zipties and a flurry of creating every floral idea I could think of – including two foot diameter flowers –  my 160 foot long knitted, crocheted, knotted and macrame art installation is on display after 2.5 months of work.

Gallery in the Gardens presents Hanging Garden at Montefiore Health System. Located in the west courtyard of the hospital it provides a restorative environment for the staff, patients, visitors, even passersby! Up through end of September.

Beautiful, amazing! 2.5 months, though, that’s nuts! I hope your hands have fully recovered!
