How to make Plarn – Basically you can make plastic yarn out of plastic grocery bags by cutting loops and looping the loops together creating a double stranded knotted ball of yarn.
PLARN Cowboy Hat
Can you single crochet, increase stitches, work in the front and back loop? Then this hat is for you! The great thing about hats is that you can embellish them how you want. I made a flower with a ‘Bloom Loom’ by the Crochet Dude, available on the internet which adds some flair for this fun summer hat. You’ll need about 34 plastic bags of the main color, and a K (6.5mm) hook and the hat is about 24″ round.

PLARN Crochet String Grocery Bag
I discovered ‘Plarn’ – plastic yarn made from plastic bags in 2018. Obsessed would be an accurate description of the journey I’ve been on with this material. I’m pleased to release a PDF pattern for this string grocery bag made from plastic bags for sale for only $3. For a beginner or intermediate crocheter, you need to know SC – single crochet and CH – chain stitches. About 24 plastic bags, 20 in the main color and 4 for the second color and a size K (6.5) crochet hook. The bag is apprimately 28″ high with strap, 14″ high without strap, and 12″ wide.
Perfect for rolling up into your every day bag, then using at the supermarket for a strong, stretchy alternative to disposable grocery bags, which it seems will be banned in the near future!

ASKAI knitted infinity Loop Scarf designed by Ruth Marshall
Based on “Askai” the male snow leopard, inhabitant of Central Park Zoo, New York City.
In 2014 I transcribed Askai’s pelt into a life size hand knitted textile. On a cool day Askai can be seen wrapping his tail around himself to keep warm. His tail markings are so luscious I thought, “Why can’t we humans also keep the chill away with knit version of his tail?” Knitted vertically the ends are grafted together to form an infinity loop with an invisible seam.
Skill level: Intermediate, experience with color knitting.
Size: For one loop, (34″ x 4″ / 86cm x 10cm.) Repeat chart for two loops, (64″ x 4″ / 162cm x 10cm.) Relaxed curled width, (2″ / 5cm.)
Materials needed: Size 8 (5mm) needles. Suggested yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease, one ball each of three colors will create multiple scarfs.
