Art For Habitat

Continuing on from last years successful “We Are All Connected” program, funding has returned with a community arts grant from Bronx Council on the Arts to make our “Art For Habitat” 2024 program possible again!

Join Local Bronx Artist Ruth Marshall to create Artwork to support a habitat that supports pollinators such as the Monarch Butterfly, bees, ladybugs and native plants currently being preserved along the pedestrian walkway at the Hutchinson Metro Center in the Bronx – introducing the “Metro Pollinator Habitat!”

Colorful nylon Paracord will be crocheted into representations of the life cycle of the Monarch butterfly, and plants such as Milkweed to decorate fencing at the habitat to bring attention to this important conservation effort. This endeavor began in 2023 with educator Patti Cooper and has been supported for two years now by the Bronx Council on the Arts and Morris Park NYPL in collaboration with DOT, NYC Parks and Simone Properties. All materials supplied, all ages and skill levels welcome!

The program is complete and is open to the public via the greenway walkway. Enjoy our efforts! You will see a representation of the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly as well as other species of plants and animals that exist in this habitat – bees, dragonflies, milkweed plant and a Blue Columbine flower!

The program will be conducted at Morris Park Library – 985 Morris Park Ave, Bronx NY 10462 on Saturdays from 2-4pm from June 8 – August 3.

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature.
